The brief was to design a live/work unit on the roof of a two storey former BT Exchange. The Client wanted the main outlook of the accommodation to face north with minimal windows on the principal public facades. He also wanted a north facing balcony deck that was private and shielded from tall buildings on either side.
The design result was an art-deco style structure built to the client’s exact requirements. Because the development site was on top of an existing building, it increased the urban density without affecting setting, amenity or adversely impacting on the locality or the environment.
This project won Best Technical Innovation at the Cornwall Building Awards 2014.
